International law and human rights
In the area of international humanitarian law and human rights, nothing less than the fundamental freedoms and rights of individuals, groups and peoples are at stake. Due to the increasing internationalisation of the legal profession over the last few years, this field has grown in both importance and complexity.
Böhler has focused on these areas ever since it was founded, and has built up a wealth of expertise, experience and knowledge. We have close ties with a number of important organisations and represent clients in a variety of complex cases.
Our cases often concern extremely emotional, and sometimes even traumatic, experiences. Our clients regularly originate from states that are governed by totalitarian or dictatorial regimes, or that have fallen victim to civil war. Böhler’s lawyers are equipped to deal with such situations; our considerable experience has prepared us to deal with the emotions inspired by such cases.
Böhler also represents individuals suspected of committing war crimes and other international criminal offences. Our lawyers are aware of the potential conflict between victims and perpetrators involved in the same case. We firmly believe, however, that everyone has the right to a fair trial and adequate defence counsel.
