Prof. Hans Ulrich Jessurun d’Oliveira (1933)
- Studied law at the University of Amsterdam.
- Obtained his doctorate cum laude in 1971 with a thesis on private international law.
- Between 1971 and 1974, professor in legal philosophy and comparative law at the University of Groningen, and professor in private international law and comparative law at the University of Amsterdam.
- Between 1987 and 1993, professor at the European University Institute in Florence.
- Between 1993 and 1998, held the chair in migration law at the University of Amsterdam.
- Partner at Böhler between 1983 and 2000.
- Adviser at Böhler since 2000, specialising in private international law, nationality law and immigration law.
Hans Ulrich Jessurun d’Oliveira is an honorary member of the European Group for Private International Law and a member of the Academy of Europe. He is co-founder and an honorary member of the Netherlands Comparative Law Association. Between 1973 and 2003, he sat on the Dutch governmental commission for private international law, his final role being that of vice-chairman. Between 1976 and 1995, he chaired the Clean Water Foundation, the organisation that successfully brought environmental cases against French potassium mines. Furthermore, he was a member of the boards of the Dutch National Bureau against Racial Discrimination (1984-1987) and the University of Amsterdam’s Institute for Migration and Ethnic Studies (1995-1998).
Hans Ulrich Jessurun d’Oliveira is a Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion.

Press and publications
Hans Ulrich Jessurun d’Oliveira has a few hundred scientific publications to his name. He has edited a number of literary journals (Propria Cures, Tirade and Merlyn). Between 1975 and 2003, he was editor of the Dutch weekly for the legal profession, the Nederlands Juristedblad. He frequently publishes opinion pieces in the daily and weekly press. He also chaired the Dutch Foundation for Literature between 1997 and 2005.
