Court orders further investigation in the case of a man who was tortured in the former Dutch East-Indies (Java, 1947)
Amsterdam, 13 March 2017 - On 9 March 2017, the district court of The Hague rendered an interlocutory verdict in a case filed against the State of the Netherlands by the Javanese Mr. Yaseman, who was tortured by the Dutch army whilst in captivity in 1947.
Yaseman is being allowed to submit additional evidence. In that respect, he and his sister will testify about the facts in court. In principle, they will come to the Netherlands to do so. The court will also appoint an expert to examine the (scars of the) the injuries that were inflicted on him at the time.
