Oral arguments against Zwarte Piet (Black Pete)
Amsterdam, 20 October 2014 - On 16 October 2014 the Administrative Law Division of the Coucil of State held a court hearing in the appeals case initiated by the mayor of Amsterdam and the foundation Het Pietengilde (or: Black Pete-guild), against the verdict by the district court of Amsterdam in the case of Zwarte Piet (or: Black Pete)
Lawyers Wil Eikelboom and Tomasz Kodrzycki represent the respondents in this procedure, namely the people who think that the district court was right in holding that Zwarte Piet is a negative stereotype that is regarded as hurtful. They would like the figure of Zwarte Piet to be adjusted.
The oral arguments presented during the court hearing are available here (in Dutch only).
The verdict is expected on 12 November 2014.
